Astronomy is one of the oldest sciences, dating at least as far back as the fifth century B.C. In
fact, Babylonians used the positions of objects in the sky to predict events on Earth, a practice now called
astrology. If you look on the comics page of a newspaper, you'll see that astrology is alive and well,
and that astronomy has evolved into the study of other phenomena.
Those phenomena range from quasars and black holes to comets, asteroids, planets, and solar systems.
Astronomy can take you to a world beyond our world and into a universe that is larger and
stranger than you've probably imagined. Strap yourself in, and prepare for liftoff.
The science requirements of a four-year degree may be satisfied at WCC. Please see
the "Transfer Resources" section of the WCC website for details.
