From a student who was told by her family that there is no need for women to get an education to the daughter of one of our country's most famous scientists, the message from the WCC stage was clear: women can achieve their dreams. Though there may be struggles, women who achieve much have one thing in common: people who helped and believed in them along the way. The spirit of community and support is always palpable at the annual WCC Women's Council luncheon. This years honorees contributed to it in no small way: Phyllis Meadows, Ann Meredith and Laurita Thomas. Thanks to all who made the lunch so special and successful in raising support for students in need at WCC.

IRA Charitable Rollover Reinstated
Jan 22 2013

Reinstating the IRA Charitable Rollover was one of provisions made when the Senate and House passed the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 (ATRA) on January 1. Since 2006, IRA owners age 70 ½ and older have been able to make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) up to $100,000 each year. ATRA extends and expands this option for 2012 and 2013. The law permits individuals who received an IRA distribution in December of 2012 to make a cash gift prior to February 1, 2013 and still have a qualified charitable distribution (QCD). For more information, please feel free to contact the Foundation at 734-973-3665 or talk to your attorney.

WCC Wins $2.9 million grant from the U.S. Dept of Labor
Oct 3 2012

The Foundation assisted in developing the grant called IGNITE (Intentionally Growing New Information Technology Employees). Funds will allow the college to develop new I.T. programs specific to the needs of area employers and delivered in new ways that meet the diverse learning needs of students. To top that off, the college was asked to work with the USDOL to host a press conference on campus announcing the grant! One of the highlights was welcoming Congressman John Dingell and introducing him to a host of students pursuing I.T. Read more on WCC Wins $2.9 million grant from the U.S. Dept of Labor
