The 202 golfers who participated in our Annual WCC Foundation Jerry Jernigan Memorial "Drive for Education" Golf outing, held on Monday, August 20, 20121, experienced absolutely gorgeous weather as they drove, chipped, and putted their way to low scores!
Though many teams turned in exceptional scores, last year’s first place winners, Bank of Ann Arbor, were able to defend their title on the Golden Fox course. While, newcomers to the outing, Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters showed they could swing the clubs as well as their hammers by taking first place on the Classic Fox course. Great Job to both!
With golf completed and the outstanding dinner buffet ready to be served, the participants were wowed and enlightened by current WCC Foundation scholarship recipient student, Anne Veiling. Anne shared her path of life changing decisions that led her to pursue a nursing degree at WCC which will transfer straight into the EMU honors nursing program upon completion. She not only thanked all for their financial support in helping her and others achieve their educational goals, but pledged to give back to help other WCC students too, starting with her first paycheck!
Anne’s sentiment was definitely reflected in the heartfelt support of the day’s participants and the amazing corporate and individual sponsors of the event.
They teamed up to make this the largest and best attended outing to date-raising over $95,000!!
