Drive for Success!

On Monday, August 17, 2015 with the beautiful weather as the backdrop, golfers enjoyed the 22st Annual WCC Foundation Jerry Jernigan Memorial "Drive for Education" Golf outing! What a success!

The four person scramble teams “drove for success” with exceptional scores by the Old National Bank team of Charlie Chapell, Tim Helber, Jeff Kleinschmidt, and Rob Naudi shooting a 60 to take first place honors on the Golden Fox course. Meanwhile, the Friends of Jerry team of Dayn Benson, Pam Horiszny, Carey Jernigan (Jerry’s wife), and Jim Schulz placed first on the Classic Fox course with a score of 62. Jim Parrinello left the 50’ Putt for Dough, 3 inches from the cup and the ever challenging “Longest Marshmallow Drive” showed a definite increase in skills this year, as Tom Richardson took home the top prize.

Fun was definitely had by all!

After golfing, the participants enjoyed an exceptional dinner, won prizes, and waited for the day’s results, while they heard the real reason for their day’s participation. Santiago Castillo, a WCC Foundation scholarship recipient, shared his journey from Bogotá, Columbia at the age of 4, through his attendance at WCC, earning an Associate Degree in Business and a WCC Certificate in Accounting, while attending Eastern Michigan University. He will complete his BA in Finance with a minor in Economics next fall on the road to being a financial analyst. Santiago said “I understand that working to your full potential is one of the most important assets to succeed. And with the help of the donors to the WCC Foundation, I was able to be the first person in my family to graduate from college, thank you.”

Santiago is driven to succeed and speaks for the students the WCC Foundation helps every day.

The day's participants and the amazing corporate and individual sponsors of the event have driven to successfully help more students like Santiago, by raising $93,000!!

On behalf of the WCC students who will be touched by this incredible support - Thank You, you are the best!
