The golfers teed up to gorgeous weather on Monday, August 18, 2014 for the 21st Annual WCC Foundation Jerry Jernigan Memorial "Drive for Education" Golf outing!
As always, the four person scramble teams turned in exceptional scores with the Genova Development Co shooting a 59 to take first place honors on the Golden Fox course; while, Fifth Third Bank placed first on the Classic Fox course with a score of 62. And Mike Aldrich was the winner of the newest contest at the outing, the Longest Marshmallow Drive, definitely a skill set we all need. Needless to say, fun was had by all!
With golf completed and the outstanding dinner buffet ready to be served, the participants were thanked and educated by Dr. Rose Bellanca, WCC President, and recent WCC Foundation scholarship recipient student, Ashley Thomas. Ashley, who now works full time at Transtar Autobody Technologies as a color tech, recently finished in May, her third year of the WCC Auto Body Repair curriculum, and starts the Fall 2014 semester at EMU to complete her 3+1 Program Bachelor’s degree in Business or Coatings.
Ashley explained that without the generous support of donors, such as the golf outing attendees, her education would not have been possible. When her mom lost her job and her father’s job was downsized to half time, the WCC Foundation scholarships helped her continue her schooling, and now she only has one more year to complete.
The heartfelt support of the day's participants and the amazing corporate and individual sponsors of the event, teed up to help students like Ashely and many more by raising $93,000!!
On behalf of the WCC students who will be touched by this incredible support - Thank You, you are the best!
