Monday, August 19, 2013 turned out to be one of the few true summer days seen this year, making it truly enjoyable for the 204 golfers who participate in our Annual WCC Foundation Jerry Jernigan Memorial "Drive for Education" Golf outing!
The four person scramble teams turned in exceptional scores with the Comcast team shooting a 57 to take first place honors on the Golden Fox course. While, newcomers to the outing, Laborer's Local 499 placed first on the Classic Fox course. And James Sharsa had everyone holding their breath as he came within 6 inches of sinking a 60 foot putt for $10,000 in the Putting Contest, wow! Great Job by All!
With golf completed and the outstanding dinner buffet ready to be served, the participants were thanked and educated by current WCC Foundation scholarship recipient student, Justin Furman. Justin, a recent May honors graduate with an Auto-body Repair Certificate, is continuing at WCC as part of WCC's amazing 3 + 1 program. At the end of this final year at WCC, Justin will graduate with an Occupational Studies associate's degree and be able to transfer 3 full years of credit to EMU to complete his final year for a bachelor's degree. He praised his highly qualified teachers for sharing with him and all their students, the latest cutting edge skills needed in the market today, and even educated the audience on what new auto-body repairs are on the horizon with the changes in the materials of the cars. Justin promises to come back and help other students change their futures too and may even employee some of them in his shop he eventually will own!
The heartfelt support of the day's participants and the amazing corporate and individual sponsors of the event, teamed up to make this the largest and best attended outing to date-raising over $99,000!!
On behalf of the WCC students who will be touched by this incredible support - Thank You!
