The Olympiad is co-sponsored by Eastern Michigan University and Washtenaw Community College. The 2009 competition was held Saturday March 21, 2009 on WCC's campus.

Events involve the various science disciplines of biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, and computers and technology. Events offer a balance of skills requiring knowledge of science facts, concepts, processes, skills, and science applications.

Winners of the Regional Science Olympiad advance to the Michigan State competition and winners from there go on to the International Olympiad.
