Using the Library Databases on Campus & from Home

To find articles from newspapers, news transcripts, magazines, and scholarly journals, use one of the research databases below.

The following databases are meant to be used for academic purposes in educational programs only.

Academic OneFile
Find peer-reviewed, full-text articles from leading journals and reference sources in all subject areas.

AccessScience
An online collection of science reference materials, including encyclopedias, dictionaries, research updates, science news, biographies and illustrations.

African American Experience
An excellent searchable database of African American history and culture, African American Experience contains reference books, monographs, primary documents such as manuscripts, court cases, speeches and statistics, as well as photographic images, maps and audio clips of interviews with former slaves.

ArticleFirst
An index of general-interest articles from the content pages of 16,000+ journals covering all subject areas from 1990 to present.

ARTstor
An excellent digital image library in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and sciences, this database contains over 500,000 images spanning a number of general and specialized collections. (This image database is for educational use only. Users must comply with copyright restrictions in not posting images on commercial or public websites, or adapting/modifying images, or engaging in unlawful reproduction, distribution and performance of images, etc. Users must also enable Flash Player, Java, cookies and pop-ups.)

Biography Resource Center
Find biographical information on more than 150,000 people from throughout history. The information is from books, magazine articles, and websites.

Books in Print Plus
A comprehensive bibliographic database of over 5 million in-print, out-of-print, and forthcoming book, audio book, and video titles, including reviews and publisher information.

Business & Company Resource Center
Find periodical articles on all business topics and also investment reports on specific companies prepared by financial service providers.

Catalog of ART Museum Images Online
This is a growing image collection of artworks from prominent museums around the world. The collection covers a wide range of expressive media from different historical periods. (Used for educational and research purposes only if images are properly credited. Images may not be modified, published or distributed.)

Chilton Library
This database provides diagnostics, repair procedures, wiring diagrams, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) maintenance schedules, Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs), and recalls for automobiles and light trucks.

CINAHL Plus with Full-Text
CINAHL is the world's most comprehensive source of full text for nursing & allied health journals (including dental, radiography, physical therapy, pharmacy technology, and other Allied Health fields), providing full text for more than 560 journals indexed in CINAHL. Of those, nearly 400 have cover-to-cover indexing in CINAHL.

Computer Database
Use this database to find computer-related product introductions, news and reviews in areas such as hardware, software, electronics, engineering, communications, and the application of technology.

CQ Researcher
Find in-depth reports on controversial issues, with each report providing 12,000 words of text along with graphics and photos.

Demographics Now
Use this market research database to find U.S. demographic information. The database also provides an easy-to-use tool for generating a variety of reports.

Discovery Education Streaming Video
This digital video database contains over 4,000 videos and 40,000 video clips in all subject matters. (This video database is for educational use only. Users must comply with the Terms of Use as specified on the database website. QuickTime and Windows Media Player are also required for use. For remote access by WCC users, please contact Bailey Library staff at 734-973-3429 for passcode. After logging in with passcode, users need to create individual accounts.)

ECO
An index of 5,000+ scholarly journals covering all subject areas from 1995 to present.

Educator's Reference Complete
A collection of more than 1,100 periodicals and 200 reports on all levels of education (preschool to college), as well as on issues in education administration, funding, and policy. This database provides full text for some journals indexed in ERIC.

ERIC
An index of non-journal materials issued in the Resources in Education (RIE) and journal articles in the Current Index to Journals in Education (CIJE), covering 1966 to present.

Expanded Academic ASAP
Find articles in scholarly journals, news magazines, and newspapers on the arts, humanities, social sciences, sciences, technology, and other academic disciplines.

FMG Science Streaming Video
A streaming video collection of over 1,400 programs on physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, geography, computer, technology, earth and environmental sciences.

Gale Virtual Reference Library
Find articles in encyclopedias, almanacs, and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research.

General Business File ASAP
Analyze company performance and activity, industry events and trends as well as the latest in management, economics and politics. Access to a combination of broker research reports, trade publications, newspapers, journals, and directory listings with full text and images available.

General OneFile (includes sci-tech journals)
A consolidated, one-stop search engine for Infotrac/Galenet databases. It covers a wide range of topics: business, computers, current events, economics, education, environmental issues, health care, humanities, law, literature and art, politics, science, social science, sports, technology, and many general interest topics.

General Reference Center Gold
Find general interest articles on current events, popular culture, business, sports, hobbies, and more in magazines, newspapers, and reference books.

Global Issues in Context
Use this database to find information on international issues from a global perspective. This database consists of newspapers, magazines, journals, reference works, statistics, and primary sources, including media items such as podcasts and videos.

GPO
An index of all types of U.S. government documents, including congressional reports, hearings, debates and records; judiciary documents; and documents issued by the executive departments; covering 1976 to present.

Health & Wellness Resource Center
Find magazine and newspaper articles and reference book information on topics such as fitness, nutrition, diseases, alcohol and drug abuse, and prescription drugs. Also included are links to Websites on these topics.

Health Reference Center--Academic
Find magazine and newspaper articles on all aspects of medicine, nursing, health and nutrition.

Heritage Quest
This genealogy database contains: U.S. federal census records, family and local histories, tax lists, city directories, probate and military records, Periodical Source Index (PERSI) covering more than 6,000 genealogy periodicals, and Freedman's Bank Records, an important resource for African-American genealogical research.

History of Science, Technology & Medicine
An index of international journals, conference proceedings, books and dissertations in the history of science, technology and medicine.

History Resource Center: U.S.
This U.S. history database contains: Primary Source Microfilm's archives, encyclopedic articles, full-text history, journal articles, and audio-video clips of historic speeches and events.

Infotrac Custom 150 Full Text Newspapers
Find full text articles from the last 12 months in the New York Times, LA Times, Boston Globe, and other U.S., Michigan, and foreign newspapers.

Latino American Experience
A full-text database of primary and secondary information sources, as well as images and vetted websites, on the Latino history and culture in the U.S.

Learning Express Library
This is a leading source of online test preparation materials and interactive practice exams, including: GED, basic skills tests, Advanced Placement tests, ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, US citizenship, real estate and law enforcement tests, and much more. This database works better with Internet Explorer than with Netscape.

Legal Trac
Use this database to find articles in all major law reviews, law journals, specialty law and bar association journals, and legal newspapers. Included are articles on federal and state cases, laws and regulations, legal practice, and taxation. Also included are British Commonwealth, European Union, and International Law.

Lexis Nexis Academic Universe
Use Academic Universe to find newspaper and magazine articles, TV and radio transcripts, opinion polls, case law, federal and state codes, company annual reports, and much more.

Literature Resource Center
Find critical and biographical information in journals, reference books, and Websites on literary figures from all time periods in genres such as fiction, poetry, drama, history, and journalism.

MEDLINE
An index of health science journals covered in Medicus, Index to Dental Literature, and International Nursing Index, covering 10,000+ journals from 1965 to present.

Michigan Newspapers
Use this database to search the full-text content of Detroit Free Press, Detroit News, Grand Rapids Press, and Lansing State Journal.

Micromedex
This database consists of two components: Micromedex Heathcare Series and CareNotes System. The former contains clinical information on drugs, toxicology, diseases, acute care, and alternative medicine. The latter provides patient education documents about all aspects of patient care and health. The database is only meant to be used for academic purposes in educational programs; it is not intended to provide medical or clinical advice to individuals.

New York Times
Find full text articles from 1985.

Opposing Viewpoints
Use this database to research contrasting perspectives of social issues, such as gun control, genetic engineering, censorship, endangered species, etc. The database brings together viewpoint articles, contextual topic overviews, government and organizational statistics, court cases, profiles of government agencies and special interest groups, newspaper and magazines articles, as well as links to more than 1,000 reviewed and subject-indexed web sites. It takes its name from the renowned Opposing Viewpoints print series published by Greenhaven Press.

PsycArticles
A database of journals published by the American Psychological Association and Canadian Psychological Association. Updated weekly, this database contains approximately 200,000 full-text articles.

PubMed
Developed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the National Library of Medicine, PubMed is a journal citation service for biomedical literature, including MEDLINE and more.

Reference USA
A powerful database containing information on millions of U.S. businesses and households. Use this database to conduct research on businesses, markets, potential employers, etc.

Science Resource Center
This database contains 200 full-text science journals, science reference titles, thousands of multimedia records, science glossary, as well as national and state science standards.

SMART Imagebase
The Scientific & Medical Art Imagebase is a collection of over 18,500 illustrations and animations depicting anatomy, physiology, surgery, diseases, and other health science topics. Users may download for non-commercial, educational purposes.

Stat-USA/Internet
Find authoritative data on U.S. economic, finance, and international trade statistics, as well as market research reports.

What Do I Read Next
Enhanced with author biographies, this is a good source of over 100,000 classic, mainstream, fiction, and non-fiction titles on a wide range of subjects recommended by experts for all age levels.

WilsonSelectPlus
A full-text journal database in science, humanities, education and business, covering 2,000+ journals from 1994 to present.

WorldAlmanac
Covering Funk & Wagnall's New Encyclopedia, World Almanac and Book of Facts, World Almanac of the U.S.A., World Almanac of U.S. Politics, and World Almanac for Kids, from 1998 to present.

WorldCat
A catalog of 85+ million books and other items held by libraries worldwide, covering dates from 1000 B.C. to present in 400+ languages.

WorldCat Dissertations
