Animal Rights Debate

Covering: Animal Rights, Animal Testing

ALDF: Animal Legal Defense Fund
The mission of ALDF is to "protect the lives and advance the interests of animals through the legal system." ALDF's work with elected officials to create model state animal protection laws is chronicled as well as ALDF's efforts to persuade Congress to pass an Animal Bill of Rights.

American Anti-Vivisection Society
The American Anti-Vivisection Society (founded in 1883) is a non-profit animal advocacy and educational organization dedicated to ending experimentation on animals in research and testing. Much information is provided as to current conditions for animals in research laboratories, and information is also given on the responsibilities the United States Department of Agriculture and the Public Health Service have in this area.

AnimalConcerns.Org
"Animal Concerns is the online community for people concerned about the welfare and rights of animals." From this website, links go to such topics as animal rescue, animals as food and clothing, animals in entertainment, hunting and trapping, laboratory animals, and working animals.

FactoryFarming.Com
"Factory farming is an attitude that regards animals and the natural world merely as commodities to be exploited for profit" This information covers the effects of factory farming on human health, on the environment, and on the lives of the animals themselves.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals PETA
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), with more than 1.8 million members and supporters, is the largest animal rights organization in the world. PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in laboratories, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry.

World Animal Net
"World Animal Net is the world's largest network of animal protection societies with over 1500 affiliates in more than 80 countries campaigning to improve the status and welfare of animals." Some of the campaigns described through this website are the anti-fur campaign, the campaign to stop the use of animals in cosmetics testing, and the campaign to stop the crowding of laying hens into battery cages.
