American College Counseling Association
A division of the American Counseling Association, the ACCA is especially for "those persons in higher education…whose professional identity is counseling and whose purpose is fostering students' development." The Web site contains links to other organizations, publications, listservs and more.

American School Counselor Association
Meeting the needs of professional school counselors from elementary school through college, the ASCA focuses on professional development and best practices. It is also a division of the American Counseling Association, http://www.counseling.org/. Some of the information on the Web site is Members Only, yet there is a Parents & Public section with resources such as articles and a link to books. There is also information on counseling as a career, general information about the profession, legal and ethical information and more.

Life Works
The Office of Science Education of the National Institutes of Health has created a site to help users plan careers in the health and medical sciences. Browse over 100 career descriptions alphabetically or by education required, interest area, and median salary. Links to preparing for college early with tests and courses to take from eighth grade on. Investigate careers ranging from athletic trainer, dental hygienist, home health aide, pharmacy technician, social worker to veterinary technologist. Career finder sifts through 106 possibilities and creates a list of jobs to explore based on individual interests and skills.

Accessed via the Michigan Electronic Library, this Web site has links to classified job ads, career tips and resources with emphasis on employment in Michigan.

Michigan Career Portal
Great resource for Michigan job seekers: “This is your one-stop-shop for searching for jobs, finding information on starting your own businesses, connecting to job training resources, and getting information on community college or university classes.” It includes information for not only job seekers, but students and parents, employers and teachers. Access to Michigan job banks is provided.


MI Careers in Manufacturing
Designed to support manufacturing careers in Michigan including robotics, automotive, nanotechnology and more, this website contains references, statistics and resources pertinent to the industry. Special features include virtual tours of manufacturing plants, student interviews, a blog and salary information.


Michigan School Counselor Association
This is the state chapter of the American School Counselor Association, http://www.schoolcounselor.org/. The Web site contains information about the chapter with assistance provided to its counselor members, but there is also useful information for parents in the Info Section under Related Links.

Michigan Talent Bank
A useful site for anyone searching for jobs in Michigan. The site is organized into three main sections: Job seekers, Employers and Career Resources. It is free for job seekers to sign up and post their resumes on the site. It is then accessible to potential employers. Job seekers can also search and apply for over 30,000 jobs posted on the site.

Michigan Works
The Michigan Works Association "is recognized nationally as the largest and most progressive workforce development association in the country." The Association provides 25 physical offices around the state, as well as a host of online resources.

National Academic Advising Association
Promoting and supporting "quality academic advising in institutions of higher education," this organization "provides a forum for discussion, debate, and the exchange of ideas pertaining to academic advising through numerous activities and publications." Special features include a Clearinghouse for academic advising resources, events, services and more.

Quintessential Careers : a career and job-hunting resources guide
A comprehensive and free job-hunting and career resource guide that includes expert job searching advice and career articles, as well as links to the best job sites on the web.

Vocational Education Center
An excellent source to locate information on technical and vocational careers.
