Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition
CFSAN, an agency of the FDA, is responsible for promoting and protecting the public's health by ensuring a safe, sanitary, and honestly labelled supply of food and cosmetics.It regulates over 240 billion dollars of domestic food, 1.5 billion of imports, and 15 billion of cosmetics. Responses to foodborne illness, food allergens, chemical contaminants and pesticides are covered. Details emergency preparedness, outbreaks, and inspections. A Search & Subject Index, updated weekly, allows one to search for current research on diseases, nutrients, deficiencies, bioterrorism and the "Bad Bug Book" which treats pathogenic bacteria such as listeria and salmonella.
Food Future
This site strives to balance the debate over genetic modification in food and farming. Questions posed include what about organic food, can GM clean up contaminated land, are GM foods safe, and can GM remove harmful toxins? Discusses ethical issues, gives lots of facts and figures, and includes a glossary and useful websites.

The Environmental Working Group, a team of scientists, engineers, lawyers, and programmers, has scanned government data, legal documents, scientific studies, and their own laboratory tests to expose threats to health and the environment. "Gateway to Government Food Safety Information" has links to foodborne pathogens, consumer advice, reporting illnesses and product complaints, national food safety programs, and food safety news from the CDC, EPS, FSIS, and FDA.
Food Safety Research Information Office
This office, a part of the National Agricultural Library, offers links to information on hot topics such as BSE, a list of upcoming food-related conferences, research by government agencies, annual reports and projects, and a list of government news agencies. Other links provide access to food safety topics such as salmonella and food allergies. Food Safety Research Database allows searching by keyword, subject, or agency. Research Assessments enables one to find analyses of specific organizations' research.
Healthier U.S. Government
This government site provides accurate information to help Americans lead healthier lives with links to nutrition and physical fitness. Spotlight is on the recently released Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005 and Steps to a Healthier U.S.. It includes transcripts of HHS and USDA press conferences and links to government sites such as Nutrition.gov. and Fitness.gov.
Institute of Food Technologists
An international, non-profit organization that studies food science�, the nature of food, causes of deterioration, and principles underlying food processing ; and food technology the selecting, preserving, processing, and distributing of safe, wholesome food. It includes links to "Food Technology" and the "Journal of Food Research" for peer-reviewed reports of recent research. "Nutraceutical News" presents latest reports on beneficial nutritional supplements.
