American Psychological Society: In Video Games, Not All Mayhem is Created Equal
Read the latest report on video game research presented by Iowa State University Nicholas Carnagey and Craig A. Anderson. Their research shows "that rewarded violence in video games increases hostility and aggressive thinking and behavior."

Childhood Exposure to Media Violence Predicts Young Adult Aggressive Behavior
The American Psychological Association has issued an press release on a new study conducted by the University of Michigan on the impact of media violence on children. APA provides a summary to the study with a link at the bottom of the page to the full-text to the published research.

Effects of Violent Video Game Habits on Adolescent Hostility
Read the complete article from Journal of Adolescence by psychologists Gentile, Lynch, Linder, and Walsh about video games and violence.

Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB)
Visit the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) web site for information on the guidelines for ratings on computer and video game content. The site even provides a search box for ESRB game ratings.

Media Violence
This site is home to Media Awareness Network (MNet) a Canadian non-profit organization that has pioneered the development of media literacy programs since 1996. The brief web article is about media violence but includes links to many other related media violence topics.

Psychiatric Effects of Media Violence
The American Psychiatric Association (APA) web site on media violence provides a position statement on the topics. In addition, APA briefly discusses the real issue of violent television, the distortion of reality, how to protect our children, what can be done about, and list of references.

Television Violence: Content, Context, and Consequenses.
This article is from the Clearinghouse on Early Education and Parenting (CEEP). A wonderful article on children viewing television violence. The 1997 article discusses studies about television programs with violent themes, how it impacts children, the different levels of violence, television rating guidelines, what parents can do, and a list of how to access more information on the topic.

Video Games and Children
Another excellent article from the Clearinghouse on Early Education and Parenting (CEEP) written in 1994 about video games and violence. It discusses video games used by children, rating video games, effects of violence, and a list of references.

Violent Video Games - Psychologists Help Protect Children from Harmful Effects
The Psychology Matters web site provides additional research on video game and television violence. Psychologists such as Douglas Gentile, PhD, and Craig Anderson, PhD, state that video games increase aggression in children because they are engaging, reward bad behavior and repeat the same actions over and over.
