Jim Cogswell: Meanwhile
Colorful and exciting, Cogswell's work originates in the figure; by the time the piece is completed the figure has merged into an abstract design.

Journeys to Peru
July 5 - August 4

Washtenaw Community College closes its year of art from Latin America with "Journey to Peru."

This exhibition, allows visitors a glimpse into some of the rich history of Peru through traces of the past that live on in Peru's people, their arts, festivals, crafts, food and music. Items on display include textiles, ceramics, funerary dolls and other pieces that will enlighten and entertain visitors.

The pieces from the exhibition were collected by Humanities instructor Elizabeth Thoburn as she studied in Peru with a Fulbright-Hayes grant.

Peru, land of the Inca, is the heart of the Andean World. Almost 500 years ago the Inca Empire collapsed, crushed by the conquistadors. Much of the ancient ways of life were destroyed and replaced by Spanish-European values and Catholicism. But as each culture before the conquest had contributed in their unique way to the fabric of life and infused the one that followed with ideas, even Spanish Colonialism left some marks that today can be appreciated.
