Jim Cogswell: Meanwhile
Colorful and exciting, Cogswell's work originates in the figure; by the time the piece is completed the figure has merged into an abstract design.

Maps at Midnight
January 13 - March 20, 2003

Washtenaw Community College is proud and happy to participate in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s continuously evolving multi-media installation project, "Maps at Midnight." Our installation complements the RSC’s dramatic production of Salman Rushdie's award-winning novel dealing with the partition of India, fate, memory, and magic — Midnight's Children. The pieces you see here reflect the WCC community’s artistic response to the struggles for freedom and independence that are clear connections between the history of our country and India. This is the first time we’ve had a campus-wide collaborative project here in Gallery One. We are looking forward to the creative chaos you will undoubtedly witness. We hope that as you watch this project develop, you are drawn to consider the issues of freedom and exile, the tension between historical truth and subjective memory, as well as experience the fun of seeing how this all works out.
