Jim Cogswell: Meanwhile
Colorful and exciting, Cogswell's work originates in the figure; by the time the piece is completed the figure has merged into an abstract design.

The Language of Art: Calligraphy
November 3 - December 20, 2002
The Language of Art: Calligraphy, which features varied examples of ancient and modern Chinese calligraphy and the stunning work of contemporary Islamic calligrapher Kaled Al-Saai, underscores the strong similarities between the two. Both of these cultures use calligraphy as a spiritual and emotional form of expression, comparable to painting or sculpture in other societies. While the meaning of the words and the form in which they’re expressed is important, the beauty in the calligraphy is often so strong that it becomes the focus of what we see, instead of the means to carry a message.
