Graphic Design Technology Student Invitational
June 20 - August 2, 2002

Mikyung 'Mia' Kim
WCC's Graphic Design Technology Program is unique in its approach to the visual dissemination of information. By emphasizing design theory and problem solving in addition to technological proficiency, the program's central aim is to develop visual communication designers. Like early engravers, typesetters, commerical artists, and graphic designers, the purpose of visual communication designers is to serve society through its commerical and cultural institutions. Thanks to the constant and rapid proliferation of technology, however, the designers of today must also constantly reinvent themselves by evolving alongside and in response to technological changes. To do so, they must creatively and effectively integrate technology, design theory, and problem solving in a holistic way that recognizes and supports the inherent fluidity of visual communication.
