Fire Alarm Tips
Campus Safety and Security would like to remind you to evacuate immediately when you hear a fire alarm in your area.

Unless you have had prior knowledge of alarm testing you must treat all alarms as "the real thing."

We understand that it is inconvenient for you to have to leave the building (especially in the cold weather) but we ask that you take every opportunity to practice exiting quickly and safely during a fire alarm.

Please note that when an alarm sounds, the Security Dispatch receives an alarm also. All patrollers are dispatched to the scene to verify whether or not there is a fire. This process requires all staff to do a floor-by-floor search, which may take a few minutes. As we are searching the building, we remind people to evacuate until the all clear is given. At this time we do not know if it is a false alarm, so we must treat it as if there is a fire in the building.

We have had people that refuse to leave even when told to do so. This is dangerous as seconds count when a fire exists.

Many staff members call our office when the alarm sounds and want to know if it is a false alarm. We strongly encourage you to just leave the building and not waste precious time.
