The Edge » Club Sports Welcomes New Coach
Story by Sandy Bushey
Club Sports welcomes the newest member of our coaching staff, Casey Bantle. Casey will be taking over as head coach for Club Volleyball. While this will be his first time as a volleyball coach, his experience playing the game combined with his coaching experience in other sports makes him a great fit for the position. His passion for sports and a willingness to learn are qualities that will no doubt benefit the Club Volleyball teams in their upcoming seasons. Not only does Casey have plenty of leadership experience, but he is equipped with a great support network as well. He says that other coaches he knows have been helpful to him as prepares for his new position.
Casey has been coaching soccer for about ten years, and is currently running a soccer program in the area called the Ann Arbor Football Club. While soccer might be at the top of his list, it is his passion for all sports which attracted him to the WCC Club Sports program. He plays Club Golf, Soccer and Softball, and has been on the Club Volleyball team since last fall. “Club Sports is awesome!” he said, “Mike Glass is doing an amazing job. It’s a great resource for students who go here.” Casey and Mike share the belief that at any age people should have the opportunity to play various sports, and Club Sports provides that.
When I asked him what he likes about volleyball, he said, “It’s fun! And I get to use my hands… (I don’t get to do that in soccer). .. and it’s a great team game.” One of his goals as a coach (besides winning, of course!) is to include as many students as possible. “There are a lot of great athletes at WCC who are not participating,” he said, “and not because they don’t want to. I want to get them involved and try to get the word out.”
Casey Bantle is starting the young season with a refreshing and energetic attitude that will surely be a positive influence on Club Volleyball now and in the future. We warmly welcome Casey to the Club Sports coaching staff!
