Drop or Withdraw from a Class

You are responsible for officially dropping or withdrawing from your class(es) if you are not able to attend. If you drop a class early in the semester (before the published "Last Day to Drop") you can get a refund. If you withdraw from a class later in the semester (after the published "Last Day to Drop") you won't get a refund.

If you drop a class (remember, you must do this by the Last Day to Drop):
  • You will receive a 100% refund of your tuition, technology/enrollment and contact hour fees (all other fees are non-refundable).
  • The class will not appear on your transcript.
  • Financial aid recipients who drop may have to pay back some or all of their aid and should check with the Financial Aid office before dropping.
If you withdraw from a class:
  • You will still be responsible for all tuition and fees for the class.
  • You will not receive a refund.
  • You will get a "W" on your transcript for the class.
  • The "W" might affect your financial aid.
  • Your progress in the Academic Intervention Program may be affected.
  • You might not meet insurance company, employer, or sponsor requirements.
How to Drop or Withdraw from a Class
  • If you receive Financial Aid, you should consult with the Financial Aid Office before you drop or withdraw as dropping a class might affect your aid. Even if you don't get aid, you should consult an advisor or counselor before dropping a class.
  • Before the Last Day to Drop for the session in which the class is scheduled:
    • Log in to MyWCC, go to Registration, read the instructions and drop the class.
    • You do not need an instructor's approval.
  • After the Last Day to Drop and before the Last Day to Withdraw for the session in which the class is scheduled:
    • Log in to MyWCC, go to Registration, read the instructions and withdraw from the class.
    • You do not need the instructor's permission.
  • After the Last Day to Withdraw for the session in which the class is scheduled:
    • You may ask your instructor to submit a "Withdraw" as a grade, instead of the grade that you would earn by staying in the class, but that is entirely up to the instructor.
    • You are still responsible for all tuition and fees for the class.
Do you really want to drop that class?

Stop... Think...
  • Contact Learning Support Services (LA 104) for tutoring. The center provides free tutoring to help you through the difficult times in your classes! Call 734-973-3342 for more information.
  • Talk to your instructor about alternatives.
  • Is the class you want to drop a prerequisite for another class you need later?
  • Will dropping this class delay your graduation or transfer plans?
  • Find out when the class will be offered again. Some classes are offered only one semester a year. It may be another year before you can take the class.
  • Find out if dropping the class will affect your financial aid, deferred loan or other financial arrangements.
  • Will dropping the class affect your eligibility for insurance (12 hours or more)?
  • Do you work too many hours? If your part-time work is affecting your study time, cutting down your work hours may allow you to do better in the class.
  • Is it past the Last Day to Drop? If so you must withdraw instead of drop and so will not receive a refund.
