Meet the Board: Dr. Stephen J. Gill
Dr. Gill was elected to the Board of Trustees in November 2004 for a six-year term that began in January 2005. He holds the position as Board Chair for 2008-09.
Stephen J. Gill, Ph.D. is an independent consultant who works with business, government, and non-profit organizations to evaluate and increase the impact of performance improvement programs. He is affiliated with the Advantage Performance Group, a nationwide network of sales and management training consultants. He grew up in Minneapolis, attended the University of Minnesota and then moved to Chicago and earned a Masters and Ph.D. degree in counseling psychology from Northwestern University. He moved to Ann Arbor in 1977 to join the faculty of The University of Michigan's School of Education. Gill has been an independent consultant since 1993. Previously, he was with FERA, a program evaluation firm in Ann Arbor, and then with United Training Services, a consulting firm in Southfield, Michigan. He is author of two books and over 40 articles about employee training and organizational learning. Gill served on the board of HelpSource for 12 years in the late 1980s and 1990s. HelpSource is the largest child and family service agency in Washtenaw County. He is married to Nan Gill, formerly a principal in the Ann Arbor Public School District and currently a principal for University Preparatory Academy in Detroit.
