Meet the Board: Mr. Patrick McLean
In January 2011, Mr. Patrick McLean was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Board for two years (2011-2012). He was elected for a two-year term in 2012 which will expire December 31, 2014 and is currently Board Vice Chair for 2013-2014.
Mr. McLean is the Director of the Ford Institute for Leadership in Public Policy and Service at Albion College in Albion, Michigan. In this role, he is involved in teaching, mentoring, developing internships and offering opportunities for the next generation to experience the public policy process. Immediately prior to this position, Mr. McLean served for four years as the Finance Director for the City of Toledo, Ohio, managing all financial apects of the city's $600 million annual operations.
Mr. McLean has more than 20 years of experience in state and local government and the private sector, including extensive budgeting experience in his role as Chief Financial Officer for the Ohio Attorney General; Chief of Staff and Budget Director in the Ohio Senate; advisor to city mayors; and as Associate Vice Chancellor for Affordability and Efficiency with the Ohio Board of Regents.
Mr. McLean earned his BA in Political Science from the University of Dayton and his MA in Political Science from Miami University. He has a Certificate from New York University in Nonprofit Management and Fundraising, and he later served as adjunct faculty there after developing a course for the Heyman Center for Philanthropy titled Working Effectively with Elected Officials.
He has served as an adjunct faculty member at Wilmington (Ohio) College and Monroe County (Michigan) Community College, and has played the role of faculty advisor on college student trips to Central Europe.
Mr. McLean resides in Ypsilanti, Michigan with his wife Angela and son Ian. He enjoys hiking, kayaking, urban revitalization, yoga and reading. He speaks some German, a few words of Czech and has traveled extensively in Central Europe.
